BOOK OF THE WEEK #1

hey there. i’m a reader, so i figured i’d start posting up some Book of the Week articles featuring books that i’ve read and enjoyed. so let’s get started.

V FOR VENDETTA

By: Alan Moore and David Lloyd

V for Vendetta holds a special place in my heart. It is such a good and riveting read.
It’s the story of  a masked anarchist who saves a young prostitute from being raped to go on to teach her about freedom and madness. The anti-hero V is set upon toppling the fascist government of Britain. He ends up doing so in various ways, be it generously torturing political officials, sabotaging the controlled TV networks, or hijacking the subway systems. V’s escapades and his monologues are so captivating. His philosophy that an idea is bulletproof is awesome. His backstory and past are beautifully written out and sparingly revealed. This story also follows the timelines of some other pretty interesting characters. There’s Evey (what happens to her at one point becomes one of the most emotionally draining things i’ve read. it’s so crazy good.) and the “heroic” Detective Finch (who at first seems like a bland guy, but soon becomes a multi layered personality) among others. Alan Moore paints a haunting and dreary picture of a world that’s inhabited by gloomy yet believable characters. This book is so deep. I catch something new every time i read it.  Theres some pretty complex stuff going on in this tale. I highly recommend this book to all you searching for a good read.

(Oh. And please don’t be turned off by this being a comic book. It’s a great piece of literature, i assure you.)
